Marc, “Let’s head east to see what Savannah is all about then head south to Florida, weather will be great.”
Joanie, “I agree, what are the chances that we will get bad weather while we’re on the road?”
Winter Storm Izzy, “Hey Marco and Joanie, hold my beer.”
The good news is that we haven’t experienced any bad weather yet. The bad news is that while I am typing the temperature continues to drop and tornadoes are circling over head. Our plan is to spend a few nights in Columbus GA and see how the next few days turn out.
Winter Storm Izzy, “Awesome, this could really be fun!”
Today we spent time in Monroeville, Al, the literary capital of Alabama. Turns out you can put that on your welcome sign when you have two childhood neighbors, one Pulitzer Prize winner and another final for the award. “To Kill A Mockingbird” is Joanie’s all time favorite book and I could almost see tears flowing from her eyes when we pulled into the city. I had actual tears flowing when I found out I had to pay $5 to visit the courthouse depicted in the movie, not the actual courthouse mind you but the one depicted. Good gosh, sweet home Alabama!
We visited a local Antique store, Backroads Antiques, and the owner gave us the lowdown on all of the best places to see. To show our gratitude we purchased a $2 DVD of Wedding Crashers, I’d say we are even. Best advice, “you better hurry because the city shuts down on Saturdays at 2 and doesn’t open back up until 4.” I was thinking a nap in the truck but Joanie said we could leave at 2…so we did.
Rest day tomorrow, I accept your challenge Izzie.

Tiny city in Alabama with two giant writers…what are the chances?!

We saw Boo…

Truman and Harper.

Definitely a Boo Radley sighting. It was my understanding that he came out only at night.
It’s “deja vu all over again”. We got caught in the storm of the century, the last century, on our epic trip to Disney World. Had to camp out in a Holliday Inn in Baton Rouge for a couple of days.
Have a safe trip. I’m looking forward to Savannah. Haven’t been there.
